Now the real question is, is Thomas actually Scottish or is he a poser
On the one hand:
- idk whether or not this was actually the case but it’s certainly plausible to me that upper class Scottish people in the early 1800s did not speak with Scottish accents and the six idiots generally do their research
- it’s also plausible that Thomas specifically might have cultivated an English accent for whatever reason
But on the other hand:
- Thorne is first & foremost an English surname
- he comes from the post Jacobite uprisings, sir Walter scott was a big celebrity, Scottish romanticism period, so it’s ALSO plausible that he could be purporting to be Scottish based on distant or dubious ancestry
- I have a notion that the widespread adoption of RP English across geographical lines is comparatively recent
- he IS definitely a poser just like in general
