Archaeologists have found what they believe to be the world’s oldest intact shipwreck at the bottom of the Black Sea where it appears to have lain undisturbed for more than 2,400 years.
The 23-metre (75ft) vessel, thought to be ancient Greek, was discovered with its mast, rudders and rowing benches all present and correct just over a mile below the surface. A lack of oxygen at that depth preserved it, the researchers said.
“A ship surviving intact from the classical world, lying in over 2km of water, is something I would never have believed possible,” said Professor Jon Adams, the principal investigator with the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project (MAP), the team that made the find. “This will change our understanding of shipbuilding and seafaring in the ancient world.”
You know what I don’t think is really touched upon by fans is that before Yuki, she doesn’t even REALISE she has a favourite colour. She picked the ribbon just… just because she picked it out right? But no, she picked a red ribbon and a yellow background because it’s what she thought would look best. Yuki had to help her realise that.
She didn’t realise she loved Mogeta until Yuki recognised how much she loved Ayame’s toy and decided to buy her a paperweight. Maybe she just read the manga sometimes and looked at the online boards, but she doesn’t have the ability to recognise that it’s a hobby.
Machi is just existing, she’s been told she’s dull and she believes it because nobody has ever taken the time to get to know her. She’s never been given the opportunity to be ALLOWED an opinion so she can’t recognise those thoughts in herself.
And that is SUCH a depression mood. It become so, so, SO difficult to admit that you are allowed joy. That you have value and an opinion that matters to others. The things that bring you joy become harder and harder to recognise as she just go about the motions of living day to day.
Yuki isn’t even being conscious of what he is doing per say. He just recognises a kindred spirit in Machi, and WANTS to get to know her and do nice things for her. It’s such a basic thing, but when you are living in a dark room… the smallest things mean the world.
It comes down to one of the biggest themes in Fruits Basket: Just because you cannot recognise you own positive traits, just because you cannot see your own worth does not mean it is not there. Other people can see it, other people will recognise it and love you for it, you just have to have the courage to listen to them. And slowly, ever so slowly, you will begin to believe them, and start to see those things for yourself.
Madam Jin was Jiang Cheng’s ally in the Jiang-Jin custody negotiations both for sentimental reasons (they’re all she has left of her sworn sister) and because she didn’t think Jin Ling was entirely safe at Carp Tower after Yanli and Zixuan died and she wanted him out of the way in his most vulnerable baby years!
I think their relationship is fascinating in general- he so closely resembles someone she clearly loved dearly, at least in superficial ways, and yet Yanli very clearly her favourite between the two of them. I like the idea of her telling him that his mother and sister would have been strong enough to endure this so he’ll have to get up off the floor and start making meaningful contributions to helping Jin Ling survive infancy if he doesn’t want to disgrace their memories.
I also think she is the number one Jiang Fengmian anti. Not even for any reasonable cause she just saw him and instantly decided he was the worst man in the entire world, like she hated her own husband very much but will argue he had redeeming features for the sake of an unfair comparison.
